During the early morning hours of March 2, 2019, I ascended the Lion Head Winter Route to attempt Mt. Washington for sunrise. The route was much steeper than normal due to the extra-deep snow this winter. Shortly after daylight, I encountered white-out conditions about a couple of hundred feet above Lion Head. With no extra time to wait it out (due to a commitment in MA around noontime), and no way to see where I was going, I called it off, and headed down. It was bright sunny skies by the time I reached the trail head, but that is how it goes sometimes, especially when you're tying to hike during a specific time. This was going to be 28th ascent of Mt. Washington (and 9th time in winter), but that will have to wait until next time. I had been wanting to do Washington for sunrise, as it had been almost 3 years since I last summited.
