Junkers JU-52 Tante Ju D-AQUI and F-AZJU

Published 7 May 2019

Footage of the(out service since 01/2019 )Tante JU 52 D-AQUI and the (French own)F-AZJU (still airworthy). Lufthansa no longer flies with the Junkers Ju 52, the historic aircraft, also known as the Tante Ju. The costs to keep the 83-year-old box in the air have become too high, says Lufthansa. Last year a Ju 52 from a Swiss company crashed. Since 1986, Lufthansa has been running the three-engine Junkers with registration D-AQUI. But everything comes to an end. In recent years, a lot of major maintenance had to be done on the very old Ju 52. The entire year of 2016 was therefore canceled. The costs of replacing parts have now become so high that Lufthansa has stopped the subsidy at the beginning of 2019 , which seals the fate of the flights.
