@lilarose93482 years agoI don’t eat dairy or gluten anymore. A big difference from cutting out dairy. I bought 10 wash cloths and only use one at night for my face (1x use). Haven’t broken out since then. I change my pillowcase every time I wash my hair. Retinoic acid nightly may be helping as well. ...80

@Ash_8762 years agoThank you SO much for flagging the importance of diet! My mom and I have both noticed breakouts get triggered by specific foods (especially pork and vegetable oils) so it’s so refreshing to hear you mention this as a factor here! The tips on external factors were also fantastic! Thank you for breaking everything down so well! ...10

@theloquan3 years agoThis is right on the money. In my experience, these are all truly the most impactful factors in the state of my skin. For me, it’s the diet more than anything. That was tough to admit but it made the biggest difference. The effects of my skincare products (even Rx retinoids) are negligible compared to these things you’ve mentioned. Thanks for the candor! ...30
@
@messybunonabudget87733 years ago🙌 this makes so much sense, but I don’t remember hearing this anywhere else. Thank you for talking more about overall skincare, not just skincare products!!! Haywire hormones and a very stressful couple of years have caused major acne flairs over the last 3ish years. Finally this year I discovered your channel and doctorly. Started retinoids but was having severe dryness and redness even when I was just using it once a week. Switched to a gentle cleanser, cut my SA use to once a week, stopped using HA and differen together before bed, and used the lotion sandwich method for applying different. YOU ALL HAVE ANSWERED MY ACNE PRAYERS! I’m six months into my skincare overhaul, adding products or treatments sooo slowly, and my skin barrier can now handle differin 3x week with no peeling. My acne is mostly gone. And my red acne marks (post inflammatory erythema) are beginning to fade! ...3

@katho99783 years agoI had cystic hormonal acne and once I stopped using full coverage foundations and changed them to tints, bb/cc creams, less powder and started washing ALL my sponges and brushes, my skin got better significantly. (the pillow case one too, I just wash mine every 4th night.) I try not to use too many products on my skin and now it’s CLEAR! (cleanser, acne treatment, moisturizer & spf if going outside.) I only get a break out during my period or I eat dairy/sugary foods. she’s so absolutely right about everything. unfortunately, not all dermatologist tell you this :( I had to learn it myself before someone told me this. ...8

@shamilsahaban65443 years agoMam , how to use Clindamycin gel for my acne skincare routine along with benzoyl peroxide ? 1
@
@RiseandProcraftinatelast yearAnd what if you are someone that has hormonal acne? My acne was never an issue as long as I was on estrogen birth control. Unfortunately, I got blood clots a little over a year ago and can no longer take estrogen based birth control. I don't wear make up. I keep my face clean using single use face cloths. I don't drink dairy and eat mostly a WFPB diet, while sometimes I do stray, I eat healthier than most. I don't use hair products. I can try changing my pillow case more often. However, like I said, zero acne before I was taken off the estrogen birth control and I have now been off it a year so my hormones should've leveled out or whatever by now. I'm on the depo shot now. I'm so over the acne that if I could, I'd risk the blood clots at this point just to have a clear face again, but of course no doctor in their right mind would prescribe me the estrogen birth control. ...1
