@TheTardisDreamer3 years ago 'Feed the Birds' is supreme and still probably my favourite song to sing. And Julie Andrews is a Goddess. I went to a talk with her as a teenager and she was as beautiful and warm and intelligent as she seems. And also had a wicked sense of humour that had the whole audience in tears. I was one of the youngest there and I was laughing as much as the 90 year-olds were. I don't think there was a single person in the audience who didn't absolutely adore her by the end. The audience was asked if we would sing Edelweiss for her and everyone sang their heart out. It was so moving.
Something that isn't talked much about is that Julie Andrews, in spite of seeming so well-spoken and put together, actually had an extremely crappy childhood. She grew up in a very broken family surrounded by abuse and poverty and WWII. She basically sacrificed her childhood to feed and support her family (including her alcoholic mother and stepfather, who was also really abusive) and had to practically raise her siblings. As well as likely care for her mother/stepfather.
Her success and the admiration people have for her is completely earned. She really does deserve to be a legend.

@juliell21393 years ago The reason for the long intros was that it was part of the union rules in the movie business. By law, they had to list everyone who worked on the film as to not be sued or fined. I think it was stipulation that certain main crew and cast were listed in the opening credits. Some of the older movies had no credits at the end at all, just the beginning. ... 1

@bookwoman533 years ago Hi. Please react to Oliver! (1968) It’s a musical based on Oliver Twist. To be fair the music is far too happy for Dickens’s story but it’s a classic in musical theatre. Oliver Twist was made into several tv & film dramas. A recent one was a BBC mini series starring Tom Hardy as the homicidal Bill Sikes. ... 6
