Namco Prism Zone Dream Master (ナムコプリズムゾーン ドリームマスター, Namuko Purizumu Zōn Dorīmu Masutā) is a Action Adventure RPG developed by Birthday and published by Namco for the Famicom. It originally released in Japan on September 22nd, 1992. Dream Master stars the young pupil of the most powerful Sage of Dreams, who is tasked with saving the Princess of the kingdom of Oltaria. The Princess has fallen under the evil of the Black Dream, a world of nightmares crafted by an evil wizard. You are the last hope to venture into the Black Dream after many others succumbed to the nightmare and failed to awaken the princess. You are the last hope of saving the Princess from the neverending nightmare. The game is highly unique and definitely innovative for its time, as an RPG of its time it avoids many of the problems that plagued the genre on the famicom, and its approach to world design gave it a level of replayability after completion. As you can choose which levels to play and when to play them. It is also one of the very first games to 'fix' the overwhelming random battle problem RPGs had on the famicom by showing enemy encounters on screen, allowing you to actively avoid combat if you choose to do so, but also included a level cap, as enemies never would respawn in a level, allowing you to either fight everything, or avoid it entirely. Dream Master was also one of the last releases for the Famicom but one that immediately stood out. Even among the burgeoning 16-bit RPGs of the time, and some of its features were adapted by other RPGs to come. The game's soundtrack was composed by Rokudo Kaisei.
